5 Family-Friendly Walks Near Camp Crusty

By Camp Crusty Team15 August 2024

One of the joys of staying at Camp Crusty is the incredible variety of walking trails right on your doorstep. Here are five family-friendly favourites that are perfect for little legs.

1. Canyon Walk (3km loop, easy) — Starting right from Camp Crusty, this beautiful loop follows Morse Creek through a narrow gorge with ferns, mossy rocks, and stepping-stone creek crossings. Kids love the adventure of navigating the creek crossings, and the shaded trail stays cool even on warm days.

2. Bright River Walk (4km return, easy) — This flat, paved path follows the Ovens River from the Bright splash park upstream to Cherry Walk. Perfect for prams and bikes, with plenty of spots to stop and throw stones in the river. In autumn, the cherry trees along the path are spectacular.

3. Huggins Lookout Walk (2km return, moderate) — A short but rewarding climb through forest to a lookout with sweeping valley views. Kids will enjoy the "are we there yet?" factor and the payoff views at the top. Pack a snack to enjoy while you take in the panorama.

4. Lake Catani Walk (6km loop, easy) — Up on Mount Buffalo, this gentle loop around a beautiful alpine lake features granite boulders perfect for scrambling, wildflowers in spring, and the chance to spot wombats and wallabies. Allow extra time for rock hopping.

5. Wandiligong Heritage Walk (3km loop, easy) — This historic walk through the charming village of Wandiligong passes old mining sites, heritage buildings, and the famous Wandi Pub. Finish with a milkshake at the general store — the kids will thank you.
