One of Camp Crusty's most cherished features is its proximity to Morse Creek, which flows right along the park boundary. This pristine mountain creek, fed by snowmelt and natural springs from the surrounding ranges, provides a refreshing natural swimming experience that has been drawing visitors to this spot for nearly a century.
The main swimming hole, affectionately known by locals as "The Rock Pool," is a deep, crystal-clear pool formed by a natural rock weir just a two-minute walk from the park entrance. The water is cool even in the height of summer, making it the perfect escape on a hot day after cycling or hiking. Large, flat rocks beside the pool provide natural sunbaking spots, and the surrounding trees offer plenty of shade for those who prefer to stay cool.
For younger children, there are several shallower sections upstream where the creek widens and the current slows. Here, the water is ankle to knee-deep, and the sandy bottom makes it ideal for little ones to splash about safely while parents watch from the bank. The creek is also home to platypus — early morning and dusk are the best times to catch a glimpse of these remarkable creatures going about their business.
In autumn and spring, the creek is too cold for most swimmers but makes for a beautiful walk along the bank, with the changing colours of the deciduous trees reflected in the still sections of water. Winter brings its own beauty, with the creek often shrouded in morning mist that lifts to reveal frost-covered rocks and crystal-clear water.
Please supervise children at all times and be aware that water levels can rise quickly after rain. The creek is not patrolled — swim at your own risk.
